Evangelion / Re: Ghosts of Evangelion - a post-EoE fic by Bagheera
« Last post by Bagheera on 27 Jun 2017, 20:05 »
In case I wasn't clear, comments are most welcome. I just realized my previous post might have come off as discouraging that and I wanted to clarify that that wasn't my intent.

Anyway, new chapter. Well, more like a scene with an epilogue attached, but whatever:

Okay, here we go. Spoilered for space reasons. Just to be clear, this is fanfiction, and it's terrible, and it's short, 'cause that's how I roll. You will not see a lot of action here, because I don't give a shit about that and the show's already addressed it. This is what happens after. Don't read it if that's not what you're looking for in an Eva story.

. . . no, a lemon is not coming next. Here's what you can look forward to now that I'm committed and am actually writing:

Shinji and Asuka, one week post-3I
Asuka's return from Kyoto 2 1/2 years after 3I
Asuka and Misato rebuilding trust, days after the previous scene
Misato's plans for Asuka's future, spinning out of the previous scene
The aftermath of the Saturday referred to in the current chapter
The aftermath of their second try, or why persistence is a virtue
Shinji's first days as an administrator of Herz, the organization built to rebuild the Earth and come up with useful applications of metaphysical biology and evangelion tech in general.

These will not be written in any sort of order or on any sort of schedule. They'll come when they come. If you like 'em, great. If you don't, thanks for reading anyway. Let me know either way.

Evangelion / Ghosts of Evangelion - a post-EoE fic by Bagheera
« Last post by Bagheera on 27 Jun 2017, 20:01 »
This story was copied here from the EvaGeeks forum on 27 June 2017 in order to provide a backup archive and a place where further chapters can be added and discussed.  Note, the dates in the links are the in-story dates of each chapter.

The original of this page was posted on 25 May 2014.  You can go there to read the original discussion of the work as it grew.

Recently, I (pwhodges) went to town and made a PDF of "Ghosts"; I also fixed a few typos and the like on the way.  Bagheera has approved it.  It's much easier than reading in the forum format, and even has a clickable index:

Ghosts of Evangelion (PDF)

Okay. I'm posting it now so I don't try to weasel out of it later. Ghosts of Evangelion is a go. If you know what that means you're the target audience. If you don't, stay tuned. This is where I show you how to climb the mountain.

Get hype, peeps. Bagheera's getting off his sorry ass and writing.

Edit: I am revising as I go. Once a chapter is entered into the Table of Contents here, it can be considered to be complete. There are many more chapters awaiting revision, and many more still yet to be written. This is gonna take awhile . . .

Late to the party, but FWIW:

One of RPG.net's rules, rule 9, explicitly prohibits offering advice for professional matters, for exactly the reasons you describe above. However, it doesn't prohibit discussing such issues, so long as the advice boundary is observed. The wording of the rule goes like so:

Rule 9: Do not ask for medical, legal or other professional advice. Do not request emergency crisis counseling or solicit personal financial donations.

It seems to work pretty well.

Sorry about the forum hanging.  It was not the web server but PHP; I have never seen that happen before and will need to pore through the logs to see if there is a visible reason.

My intention with this forum is simply to provide a replacement for the "Serious Discussion" area at EGF for those who wish to continue.  It is likely that the more political conversations in the film area at EGF will also be reined in to some extent, and I would be happy to define a separate section for "Politics in Entertainment", say, though a couple of the main suspects in this area have said they won't come here.

Depression (and similar things like relationship problems) is a trickier matter.  At EGF, talk about that is pretty much confined to the FML thread, and there is little active support on offer - and that is not being changed, so there is no obvious need for a replacement.  A "Mind Games" forum needs careful handling.  Many of the issues that are likely to come up might be best addressed by professionals, and there is potential for real damage to be done by well-meaning forum members giving inappropriate advice*.  OTOH, the support of those who share your problems can be helpful in putting yours into perspective, and their experience may guide you towards the best source of professional help when required or in some cases be enough help on its own.  This implies a sufficient population of people to have those conversations with; and it will probably take some time for this new, small forum to be able to offer that.  However, at Questionable Content, alongside the "Discuss!" forum is another one called "Relate" which offers exactly what I have just outlined, and is quite active; and I think in this case I would do better to suggest you have a look there.

Or by people trying to rely on the forum to avoid facing issues properly - in one case at Questionable Content we went as far as to ban someone simply to try to force them to go to a more appropriate source of help.

I recommend dividing the serious discussions into separate categories. I.E.: Political Discussion; Serious Media Discussion (Issues like whitewashing or a celebrity rape trial (Ke$ha and Dr. Luke come to mind); or general (Depression).

I'm here, but I should probably stop being so lame and get an avatar by now. :P

Yo. I joined a few days ago because the forum can't be read without a membership, but figured I should at least post my arrival. I'm here primarily to observe pwhodges's moderation style.

Administrator Comment Take note that piggybacking off someone else's bad behaviour is not a good move here.

Just wanted to pop in and note that, in fact, "dank memes" are not what spammers post. I attempted this reply 5 times with different accent marks over the "e"s and was thwarted each time. Forum registration, like existence, is suffering.

In any event -- while I can't promise serious discussion from myself, I assure you all it will be post-ironic at the very least.
